Labradorite is a feldspar mineral that is often found in mafic igneous rocks like basalt, gabbro, and norite. It is also found in anorthosite, an igneous rock in which labradorite can be the most abundant mineral.

Labradorite is named after Labrador, Canada, where it was first discovered. It can still be found in Canada today, as well as in Madagascar, Mexico, Russia, and the United States. 

Labradorite has a pearly sheen and some specimens have a schiller effect. The crystals are often found in thin and tabular shapes with colors ranging from purple to grey blue, green, yellow, and brown.
