 It's also known as fluorspar. Fluorite is a halide mineral that crystallizes in isometric cubic habit. It can also form in octahedral and more complex isometric forms. 
Fluorite is used in many chemical, metallurgical, and ceramic processes. It's also used as flux in open-hearth steel furnaces. Fluorite is the main source of fluorine, which is used in the production of: 
  • Hydrofluoric acid
  • High-octane fuels
  • Flat panel displays
  • Semiconductors
