Pyrite has a metallic luster and a brassy-yellow color. It's the most common sulfide mineral. It forms at high and low temperatures in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks worldwide. 

Pyrite is opaque, brittle, and heat sensitive. It can range from one large cube to hundreds of small crystals in one stone.

However, when pyrite is burned as an impurity in coal, it forms sulfuric acid that can promote acid rain.
