Yooperlites are a type of fluorescent rock that can be found along the shores of the Great Lakes. They are especially popular in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the shores of Lake Superior.
Yooperlites are made up of mostly syenite rock, which is similar to granite. They look like any other dark stones or typical gray rock. However, they are rich with fluorescent sodalite, which glows a vibrant orange or yellow under Ultraviolet Light.
Yooperlites were only discovered in 2017. They are polluted (or “doped”) with disulfide, a type of sulfur. Testing completed at Michigan Tech University confirmed the presence of sodium, aluminum, silicon, chlorine and oxygen, but no structural sulfur.
The best affordable lights to show the glowdalites are 365nm. Using a 395nm UV light is like using the 365nm UV light at night, but wearing sunglasses.
Due to the unique nature of each stone, your item may vary slightly in shape, color, and size from the picture shown. All items are cleaned with white sage before being shipped. However, it is recommended to clean and charge/attune your stone before use.
